Women's GJTA Rules
COURTS: All regular matches will be played at Roxbury Park Tennis courts.
DAY/TIME: Wednesdays at 6:00 PM and 7:15 PM
RAIN-OUTS: If matches are If matches are to be canceled due to inclement weather, decisions should be made by 5 PM for the 6:00 match and 6 PM for the 7:15PM match. You will be notified as soon as possible by your captains.
- Rescheduling for rain dates will be on the Monday following the rain date or on the designated Wednesday at the end of the half. Courts in progress must be completed by the same players at their convenience, but before the end of the half. If a court has not started playing a point, a player may be substituted. Your captain will notify you. If all rain-out have not been completed by the the scheduled end of the half, playoffs and/or championships will be rescheduled.
CLEANING WET COURTS: On rainy days the courts may need to be cleaned prior to 6 PM. If you are available, please arrive at the courts no later than 5:15 PM to help clean them. Earlier is better and the more people that are there, the easier and faster it will be. There are squeegees in the shed for use. Someone will be there to open the shed. Remember, when replacing the squeegees, please hang them roller side up. The sponge gets flattened and doesn’t work when they rest on the roller.
PARKING: There is limited parking at Roxbury, so arrive early! There is a 10-minute grace period only!
MATCH CLOCK: cell phone time will be designated as the official time clock for every match.
- A five-minute warm-up will be enforced. Remember, this is a warm up not a practice.
- Play is continuous from the time the match starts until it ends. The maximum allowable times for breaks are as follows:
○ Between points: 20 seconds
○ On change overs ( odd games): 90 seconds
○ At the end of each set: 120 seconds
WARM-UP, COURTS,SCORING:
- 2 singles and 4 doubles courts each match
- 2 regular sets will be played. At 6 games all, a 7-point tie-braker will be played.
- If sets are split, in lieu of a third set, a 7 point tie-breaker will be played.
- The winning team will be determined by the number of courts won. If each team has won 3 courts ( a tie), then the total number of games won will be used to determine the winning team.
- Important: Players from both teams must report game scores to their respective captains.
- Weekly scores will be reported to the Tribune Democrat. Also, scores and current standings are posted on the GJTA website.
FORFEITS:
- Forfeited courts will be scored as 6-0, 6-0
- If a player arrives late, the court will be forfeited
- If a player does not show up at all when scheduled, the court will be forfeited. If something happens that you are no longer able to play that night, please notify your captain at least 24 hours in advance so they can call another player. Once line-ups are exchanged, no substitutions can be made. NOTE: A player who does not show up when scheduled or did not notify her captain in time to get a replacement will be given probation. Captains will vote on any extenuating circumstances (illness, family problems, car accidents, ect.) If put on probation, the player will be notified.
- If a player arrives late (10 minutes past the match start time), the court will be forfeitedPlayers may play for fun,but the score will remain 6-0,6-0.
DEFAULT DUE TO INJURY: If there is an injury during the match, the games that have been played will stand.
PLAYING TIME: Every effort must be made by the captains to have everyone PLAY at least six (6) times during the season. If any player feels they are not getting sufficient opportunity to play, notify the Women’s League VP, Kara Lazer. This stipulation does not apply if the player has two instances of probation.
DISTRACTIONS: There is to be no coaching from the outside of the fence. No cell phone calls, texts, or headphones during the match. No excessive talking between games. 90 seconds are allowed for a change over. Violations will result in a penalty.
PLAYOFFS: There will be a winner of each half. At the end of the season, the winner of the 1st half will play the winner of the 2nd half. If there is a tie in either half, a playoff will be played between the teams to determine the winner of the half.
USTA RULES WILL GOVERN ALL LEAGUE PLAY
